HepCheck 1 2 3 was a vital NSW Health initiative designed to break down barriers to Hepatitis C treatment for individuals experiencing homelessness. Delivered from 2015 – 2018 in collaboration with government and non-government inner-city health service providers, the project successfully streamlined care and raised awareness for the challenges of Hepatitis C treatment in the health sector.
Ultimately, revolutionary new treatments reduced therapy timelines from one year down to just three weeks, a happy outcome that rendered the service obsolete.

The challenge
Engaging a highly vulnerable population with historically low healthcare touchpoints, while aligning a massive network of government and NGO stakeholders under a unified, secure digital health ecosystem.

End-to-End Digital Strategy & Leadership
We kicked off the project with collaborative UX workshops to align stakeholders and condense complex healthcare requirements into clear user flows.
Following the initial workshops, project outcomes were distilled into functional architectural blueprints using Balsamiq.

Technical Architecture & Art Direction
Managing the bridge between front-line health needs and rigid institutional IT requirements required precise technical leadership. We mapped out the backend user experience and actively guided the Health Department’s internal development team.
Complex workflows were systematically translated into intuitive wireframes to guide the internal build.

Inclusive Design & Testing
Designing for users experiencing homelessness meant stripping away digital friction. The resulting UI prioritized clarity, high readability, and low data-usage constraints.
The front-end design was specifically optimised for users with low language/literacy skills and older mobile devices.
